Working to safeguard our planet for the next generations.

Nowadays, it feels that businesses can have as much power as governments to effect change. This means corporate social responsibility is no longer optional, it’s expected. Among the many ways companies can demonstrate their commitment to the planet, one program stands out: 1% for the Planet.

Starting in 2025, we’ll be taking part too. As a creative agency who works in a variety of industries and with many different clients, we have an opportunity to give back to those making a difference in the world. We’re committing 1% of our revenue to support those that are working to build a better world for the generations to come. This financial contribution will empower organizations focused on sustainability, education, and social justice to expand their initiatives and drive meaningful change.

By investing in these causes, we hope to help foster innovation and lasting improvements in communities locally and worldwide. Ultimately, our commitment aims to inspire others to join us in building a more equitable and sustainable future.

What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is a global initiative started in 2002 by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, the founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. The concept is beautifully simple: member businesses pledge to donate 1% of their annual revenue—not their profits–to environmental causes. The funds are directed to vetted nonprofit partners who are addressing critical issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable agriculture.

The program has since grown into a robust global network. As of today, it boasts thousands of member businesses, individuals, and nonprofit partners collaborating for a healthier planet. By focusing on revenue instead of profit, the model ensures consistent, impactful contributions, regardless of a company’s profitability in a given year.

How does it make a difference?

The effectiveness of 1% for the Planet lies in its strict approach to giving. Nonprofits are carefully vetted to ensure funds are used effectively. Here’s how the program drives meaningful change:

  • Tangible Impacts: By supporting nonprofits directly, the program ensures funds go to initiatives that yield measurable results. Some of the initiatives include reforestation projects, renewable energy programs, and conservation efforts.
  • Collaboration: The network fosters collaboration between businesses and nonprofits, leveraging the expertise of each to solve complex environmental problems.
  • Awareness and Education: Beyond funding, 1% for the Planet also raises awareness about the importance of giving back to the planet and encourages businesses and individuals to take action.

Why take part?

Joining 1% for the Planet connects you with a diverse community of like-minded businesses and nonprofits. This network not only provides opportunities for collaboration but can also amplify your impact as part of a global movement.

Here to do our bit.

While we already take part in local community charity events and initiatives, such as raising money and riding kilometres for the Great Cycle Challenge or putting our lawn bowling skills to the test at the annual On the Lawn powered by BDO, we want to do more.

We believe that it’s our responsibility to join the movement and do our part to support those who are working to protect the earth for future generations. By expanding our involvement, we aim to make a more significant impact on our community’s well-being and sustainability.

So, we’re currently doing our research to figure out which causes we’re going to support so stay tuned for more information on that in the coming months.
