For Emergency Department (ED) professionals, time is everything. The faster, simpler, and easier the experience is for them, the better. With that in mind, we focused on advancing the website’s usability and creating clear user paths to relevant e-learning and resources. The new site architecture re-prioritizes and consolidates menu items into an intuitive structure that helps users navigate quickly. We brought membership to the forefront by showcasing clear benefits to various member types and guiding them through a straightforward onboarding process. 

GEDC’s overarching goal was to increase member value and engagement. We wireframed an experience that shares critical knowledge and best practices with members in an engaging way. Ultimately the new platform also needed to streamline operations for the GEDC team. Our strategy laid the groundwork for a backend infrastructure that simplifies admin, reporting, and member management for GEDC.

Digital Brand Refresh

Today’s healthcare needs a modern brand.

GEDC wanted to ensure their digital experience was clean, professional, cutting edge, and aspirational. This required a thoughtful brand refresh to modernize their appearance and help position their organization as a trusted leader.  

While their current logo was untouched, we saw an opportunity to explore an evolved colour palette that ensures accessible contrast as well as new fonts and expanded digital brand elements. With vibrant colour blocks, contemporary typography and modern geometric lines, the new digital style guide blends innovation and authority.

The choice of imagery ensures that older people are shown with dignity and healthcare professionals are viewed in a respectful light. Images also showcase diversity and inclusion, representing patients and professionals from different backgrounds.

UX/UI Design

Creating balance, connection and trust.

The new design seeks to showcase GEDC as a relationship-driven, collaborative, member-first organization built on connections. The site features plenty of whitespace, visual balance and professional imagery with a variety of distinctive interfaces to keep users engaged. We use colour and iconography to distinguish resource types across the site and throughout the resource hub.

We understand it is crucial for every healthcare organization to build trust with their members, partners and patients. Whether it’s testimonials, partner logos or member spotlights, we found ways to feature prominent trust signals throughout the experience.

Content Optimization

Clearly benefit-driven and member-centric.

To assist in GEDC’s mission of bringing best practice into action, we helped to craft copy for the website’s key pages. GEDC’s tone is professional, optimistic and helpful – their intention is to focus on solutions, not dwell on problems. To emphasize ease and accessibility, we distilled GEDC’s content into digestible layouts with approachable headlines and clear calls-to-action.

The value of membership and its benefits aren’t always obvious or prioritized across member-based websites, especially on the homepage experience. To address this, we wrote member-driven copy that creates a strong first impression. And to keep the homepage constantly fresh, content in various places pulls in the latest resources, news and important announcements. 

In addition to crafting new copy, we also carefully migrated all past courses, resources, blog posts and member data into the new experience. 

Resource Library

A truly tailored hub of knowledge. 

The most robust and compelling area of GEDC’s new website is their extensive resource library. The custom library features a variety of resource types including webinars, courses, events, toolkits, podcasts, and blog posts. These resources have unique display capabilities between post types, and content-gating based on the user’s role and status. Intuitive filters and advanced search through Jetpack guide users to find relevant resources easily.

Emergency Department professionals are required to take courses throughout the year to earn credits as part of their continuing medical education (CME). The resource hub includes a custom course portal, which shows currently assigned courses, courses in progress, completed courses, and legacy certificates completed on the previous website’s course platform. It also allows users to generate printable certificates for newly completed courses. What’s more, we developed custom functionality for account admins to assign relevant course content to sub-users and monitor their progress. Users can also access organization-specific content such as documents, webinars, and toolkits.

Member Experience

The membership system to meet their needs.

The platform leverages MemberPress for managing members along with some advanced customization to meet GEDC’s diverse requirements for different member types. The custom member portal includes an array of features for account management, profile management, reporting, and the e-learning portal.

MemberPress powers the custom signup flow, allowing users to choose between an individual account or join as part of an already registered hospital. This process includes functionality that notifies the hospital admin when a request has been submitted, allowing them to review and approve requests with ease – admins can also invite members directly by email. Beyond signup, MemberPress also handles renewals, alerting administrators to process payments via an integration with Stripe.  

Reporting on membership engagement is key to evaluating the platform’s ongoing success. Through MemberPress reports, we built a custom dashboard that provides GEDC staff and administrators with quick access to membership numbers and detailed data on individual users.
